Frequently Asked Questions

After the transaction, will I have complete control and ownership of the domain?

Yes, no strings attached. The domain will be yours, under your control, in your account with whatever registrar that you choose to use. No one will have access to the domain unless you grant access.

If I buy a domain from you, will I then pay you an annual registration fee?

The only annual fee that you will have to pay is the standard renewel fee that you will pay to whatever registrar you choose to use with your domain. After the transaction, you are not required to ever pay us anything and you will have exclusive, complete control over and ownership of the domain.

What happens after the transaction?

Immediately after you make payment, you will receive an email receipt for the transaction. This receipt will indicate the name of the domain purchased, the amount paid and the name of the payer based upon the credit card used or the PayPal account used.

Next, within 24 hours, you will receive an email informing you that the domain name has been moved into your personal account at the registrar where the domain is registered. This email will provide you with the URL's needed, the login and password and any instructions necessary to complete the transfer of the domain name.

We remain available to you by phone and email in case you have questions or concerns, but we seldom hear from our customers after the deal is done, because we make things as easy to use as possible.

How do I know that this is not a scam?

While YourOwnName.Com operates with 100% business integrity, we understand the importance of due diligence to make sure that an offer is legitimate. You can rest assured that we have been in business since 1997, and feel free to click on the Security Verification seals from HonestEonline and Verisign to verify our site integrity.

How can I protect myself in case the transaction does not go through?

We offer two means of paying for domain names - credit card and PayPal. This provides you with the assurance that, if the transaction were to not go through for any reason, you can always get your money back….quickly. For example, let's say you buy something over the Internet with your credit card. In most cases, should the transaction not be fulfilled, you can simply call your credit card issuer and contest the charges. If the vendor is unable to prove delivery, then the funds are returned to the customer's credit card. The same thing applies to PayPal transactions - if you feel that the transaction was not fulfilled as advertised, you can simply dispute the payment and PayPal's dispute resolution system kicks in to protect you.

With all this being said, YourOwnName.com stands behind its service 100%. If you have any problems with the transaction, you can call our toll-free number, reach someone here in the US and deal with someone who is fair and motivated to protect the image of the company.

After the transaction, can you push the domain to my eNom account?

Sure, if you want the domain delivered to your eNom account, simply contact us after making payment and indicate that you want the domain in eNom.

After the transaction, can you put the domain in the registrar of my choice?

Due to ICANN rules, the domain can only be transfered after 60 days. This should not create any problem for you, as we have an ICANN-accredited registrar with a very robust and easy-to-use administration interface. You are free to use the one-year free registration with our registrar, or transfer the domain out after 60 days.

You offered me a domain that infringes on my trademark!

We take intellectual property rights very serious. If you can simply send us proof that you own a trademark on one of our domains, please contact us to let us know this.

How can you sell these domain names if they cannot be transferred for 60 days?

We perform the transaction by transferring the domain from our eNom account into yours. If you don't yet have an eNom account, we will be glad to create one for you.

I received a message from another party offering the same domain name!

There are so many ways that dishonest people try to make money on the Internet. Offering domain names for sale which the unscrupulous marketer doesn't even own is just one of them. If you have received a letter from YourOwnName.com with an offer to buy a domain name, then we absolutely own that domain name.

We are a non-profit organization and we cannot afford to pay for the domain.

Please contact us and state your case. We are flexible and like to give back in any way that we can. We will likely decrease the price of the domain. In some cases, we will simply give the domain to the NPO at the cost of registration alone.

After I buy the domain, how do I use it for my website and email?

After you buy the domain, it is yours like any other domain that you might register. The domain will be completely under your control in whatever registrar you choose to keep the domain. In the case of Enom, hosting and email services are offered right from the same control panel where you manage your domain and they provide excellent phone-based customer service. Simply contact their customer service and they will help you get setup.

After I make payment, how long will it take for you to transfer the domain to me?

The domain name will be transferred to you within 24-48 hours.

Can I pay by PayPal?

Yes, we accept PayPal payments. You will find a PAY NOW BY PAYPAL button at the bottom of the order for that leads to PayPal for checkout.

Can I pay over the phone?

Yes, we would be glad to take your payment over the phone. Simply call toll-free at 1-877-OWN-NAME or internationally at +1 417-569-9099 between the hours of 12pm - 5pm EST to order and pay for your domain by phone.

Can I use an escrow service to make payment?

Yes, if you agree to pay the escrow fees, you can use an escrow service to pay for the domain. We currently support only escrow.com. Please consider carefully before deciding to go with escrow. It is a hassle and you may agree that you are already adequately protected without escrow services.

Will I receive a receipt for the transaction?

Yes, you will receive a receipt directly from our credit card processor or PayPal (depending on payment method) immediately following the transaction.
